APR 2011 - PARADOX
UNDERGOES TRIAL BY 'THE FIELD' 125 YEARS AGO

In the 1880s a new type of ball and shot gun was invented by Col. George V. Fosbery
and patented by the same in August of 1885. Shortly thereafter, Col. Fosbery approached Holland & Holland with his clever
invention. Holland & Holland was quick to recognize the importance of the new design and entered into an agreement with Fosbery
that would allow them to develop, manufacture, and sell guns built on the new design. Two "experimental" guns were completed
in late 1885 and were used for extensive private test and development by Holland & Holland. Then, in April of 1886,
the new guns were demonstrated in a trial for THE FIELD, a popular sporting magazine. Performance at the trial was remarkable
and word spread fast. The new Paradox gun was an immediate success. Over the following half century numerous Paradox
guns were produced, many examples of which survive to this day. For the modern sportsman who desires the dual
capabilities of the Paradox gun, Holland & Holland continues to manufacture them on a made to order basis. After 125
years the legend still lives.

FEB 2011 - CLASSIC SHOOTING WEBSITE UPDATED
We have conducted a complete renovation of
our website. Of course the most obvious change is a fresh and lively appearance but there are also some important, albeit less obvious,
changes to be found. We have added an area we are calling our “Reading Room” where we will be posting information, articles, and online
classic works for you to enjoy. Also added is a section we call The Amazing ‘Paradox’, devoted to technical and practical
aspects of shooting and enjoying the Holland & Holland Paradox guns and cartridges.
